Vの嵐 ▫️1999 ▫️Episodes

This is the beginning of Arashi’s acting adventures as a group, shortly after their debut and just a few years before the first Pikanchi movie. I’m sure it was exciting to have a chance to see them all in a show together after each member had been doing their own thing here and there.

Although I haven’t seen it, I know V6 also did a volleyball drama to support a team for the championship and I think it’s a pretty neat campaign. More sports events should require idols to make a mini-series to support it. Plus using Arashi for propaganda or advertising is always a genius move…

I thought this story was nice and each member leaned into their character. Nino was of course at the forefront hogging the screen, but Sho and Jun had some good story lines too. Ohno’s story line got lost on the side in my opinion, even though he had the sexy nurse aspect. Maybe it’s just because his character was rather soft spoken (just like in real life, especially early on). The glasses were so perfect for his look I almost wish he wore them in real life. Aiba was basically not around, unfortunately. This was strange because his character is technically the leader of their little volleyball troupe. I’m glad he got to act as a leader, though, because I feel he is often portrayed as an air head in their early years. Of course ultimately they all have to work as a team!

It was fun to see Arashi all together in character, having conflicts and building relationships that are outside of the frame of “reality”. There is a nice build-up to the final scenes. I also personally love sports dramas, movies, animes etc and uniforms are always a plus when it comes to costumes. There isn’t anything that special that happens, it’s just young people learning about life, friendship etc. What makes this show special is that it’s ARASHI! I know I am biased but I feel whenever they come together there is an electricity in the air and you can’t help but enjoy yourself no matter what they are doing.

I didn’t connect as much to the teenage angst in this one, but I think if I imagine being a teen back in 1999 when this came out, it may have been a bit more impactful. This is a must see for Arashi fans and is just a cute, fun time.
