Long-awaited First Drama Co-starring
Ninomiya: Yamapi is one of the “senpai” I’ve always wanted to work with.
Yamashita: What! Senior!?
Ninomiya: (laughs). I’ve been watching a lot of the dramas Yamapi is in. He’s really good at exuding a cool, grown-up vibe.
Yamashita: Really? I’m so happy. I’ve always wanted to work on a drama with him. It’s been three years since we last worked together, since Ninomiya-kun was a junior.
Ninomiya: Yeah, it’s been three years. I feel so relieved. It might seem like we have a hierarchical relationship within Johnny’s, but Yamapi joined a month or two after me, so we don’t really feel like we’re senior or junior to each other. That’s why I want to be under Yamapi in the drama (laughs). It’s been four years since I’ve worked with someone my age, so I’m actually really nervous. It was my first time working with both Oguri-kun and Narimiya-kun, and I was so nervous from the costume fitting that I lost 2kg.
Yamashita: Oh, is that so? I think I’ve worked with a lot of people my age. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone and acting in sync with them soon. I’m happy because it’s been since “Ikebukuro West Gate Park” that I’ve worked with Director Tsutsumi. His works are really cool. I saw the “Ikebukuro West Gate Park” special the other day and thought, “Wow, this is interesting! I want to be in it!” But unfortunately my character died last time. I was only 14 when I appeared in “Ikebukuro West Gate Park,” and I didn’t know anything at the time. It was only after the fact that I realized, “Wow, I was being filmed by such an amazing director” (laughs).

It’s full of high school students’ true feelings!
Yamashita: I first read the script for this drama on the train, and it was so hard to hold back my laughter! The vibe of my high school and the way I talk with my friends are very similar, so I could relate to them. But they don’t talk about anything too sexual (laughs).
Ninomiya: But I don’t think it’s that different from what I talk about in real life. When you talk with friends, guys’ true feelings are bound to come out. So I thought I might just be myself. I also really like the way Sho-chan, the character I play, thinks. He’s neutral, timid, and always submissive with his friends, but he’s in the most comfortable position among them. Even within Arashi, I’m not the type to lead the group, so we might be quite similar (laughs).
Yamashita: Personally, I still don’t really understand Kenken’s train enthusiast side… Well, he seems calm at first glance, but deep down he’s full of frustration. He’s not the type to get angry easily, and I’d say he’s quite a kind person.
Ninomiya: He’s perfect for Yamapi. Kenken is the most mature of the four. On the other hand, the ringleader who causes the most trouble in the group is Uda-yan, played by Narimiya-kun. Sho-chan (me) is the type who gets caught up in it, so I’m looking forward to it. Personally, I like the excitement of going somewhere with friends and someone messing up and getting caught up in the commotion (laughs).

Our 17-Year-Old Summer
Ninomiya: When I was 17, which was three years ago, I was trying to relax more. When I got home from work, I’d practice my batting swing until I got blisters, or play guitar until the strings broke. I feel like I did everything I could, but if I’d slept a little more back then, I might have grown taller like Yamapi (laughs). Yamapi was 17 last year, right? How was it?
Yamashita: It was different from what I imagined (laughs). My idea of a 17-year-old summer was going to festivals with everyone at school, not thinking about anything, making a ton of noise, and thinking about slightly perverted things. But in reality, I was working, so I didn’t have much time to play. So, with this drama, I want to fully experience what it’s like to be 17 years old!
Ninomiya: Well, I think this drama comes alive more if you just go with the flow and don’t overthink things, so, anyway, let’s just make up for it with youth and enthusiasm!
