ピカ☆ンチ LIFE IS HARDだけどHAPPY: Behind The Scenes
2003All Members

Shinagawa, Tokyo. Yashio Danchi is a mammoth housing complex with 69 buildings and approximately 6,000 households. It's in Tokyo, but somehow it's not quite Tokyo. In this slightly strange complex, there lives a group of five friends who have been together since junior high, bound together by a "weary bond" that has lasted them all.

The five of them are having so much fun hanging out together in the present that they have no idea what they'll do after graduation. As they spend their days like this, they suddenly realize they're in their final year of high school.

One day, the five go on their final "pilgrimage to Harajuku" of high school. Takuma rides his skateboard with gusto, Bon sets up a crepe stall, Haru keeps getting caught up by sexy scam street sale women, Chuu starts breaking roof tiles for some reason, and Shun happens to meet the beautiful girl Miku.

Little did the five of them know that from this day onward, the gears leading up to graduation would suddenly begin to turn...

"Pikanchi: Life is Hard but Happy is a Japanese film produced in 2002 and released on October 18th, marking Arashi's first group film. It was also the first film distributed by J Storm.

The film is based on the youth of Yoshihiko Inohara (20th Century), chronicling the romantic, family, and school experiences of high school students living in Yashio Danchi, Tokyo's last mammoth housing complex. Inohara's hometown, Yashio, served as both the model for the setting and the film's location. DVD and VHS versions were released, and the limited edition green case included a strap featuring "Danchichi," a character from the film.

"Pika☆nchi" is a portmanteau of "Youth is the best and most shameless" ("「青春とはピカイチでハレンチ") and the "Danchi" (housing complex), the setting of the film. The sequel, "Pika★★nchi LIFE IS HARD Dakara HAPPY," follows the group three years later.
