少しは、恩返しができたかな ▫️ 2006▫️Info

Finally the mystery of Nino’s bald head and hat obsession during this era is going to be revealed (of course I knew it was because of this drama, but seeing it in the timeline definitely made me feel the mystery you might have felt during that time). I think Nino looks great with any hair btw.

I know it’s Nino’s goal in life to devastate me. I have a lot of respect for him in terms of the types of roles he takes and the style of acting he embodies but why does he have to make me cry all the time? Although he often comes off as a lazy brat in variety shows, in the realm of acting he displays a mature and hardworking spirit. You can especially see this in the feedback he gets from the people he works with and of course how well his characters come through the screen. This drama special was no exception–an emotionally and even physically challenging role that requires a certain subtlety.

There is no glamor or opportunities to show off in this drama, all the characters are just bracing themselves to tell this true and painful story in a way that portrays it with tenderness and humanity. I think they definitely succeeded. Of course these emotional drama specials can fall into that “daytime drama” pitfall with little aesthetics and mediocre writing or acting that makes them feel pretty mid, but I think this one does a nice job staying balanced. The actors did well and the pacing was good. It was easy to feel the full weight of the situation and the small details, like the arguments with his family or the illness taking over while he was trying to study, keep the viewer connected to the painful and emotionally complex battle that the real person must have experienced. The portrayal doesn’t need anything extra to be dramatic or interesting, the story speaks for itself and is executed well.

As I mentioned earlier, I have a lot of respect for the roles that Nino takes on. He pushes himself but not in a way that feels greedy or pretentious–he engages with meaningful stories and doesn’t mind how it affects his idol image. I don’t think most idols would be willing to shave their head for some small drama special that isn’t going to bring them much money or fame. I don’t know, of course, how much input Nino has had in choosing his roles early on but I like to think he had some influence in it. Thanks to everyone involved that helped tell this story, I hope that family found some comfort and peace in more people hearing the story of their son and carrying a small portion of that pain with them. I especially loved seeing the pictures of the real guy at the end. Rest in peace 🤍
