Final Remarks
Their first overseas performance, a Hawaiian show, was scheduled for November 2001, but was canceled due to 9/11. After that, a fan tour event was held on March 30th and 31st, 2002 with 1,500 people attending (there was an announcement on the last page of the fan club newsletter and it had non-lottery openings for 2,500 people) Aiba-chan had been hospitalized with pneumothorax until shortly before, and this was Hawaii shortly after his return.
A DVD of the event was later made and sent to fans who participated. It included a message from Arashi, Tomojun's punishment game, and Matsumoto's planned "wake-up prank."
★The day before the event
A handwritten message card from the five members of Arashi was found in people's hotel room.
Welcome to Hawaii! Let's have loads of fun together! Satoshi Ohno
Welcome. Come and relax with us. Come on!! STAND UP!! Sho Sakurai
I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon. Masaki Aiba
We've arrived in Hawaii. It feels great. It's a great place! Come have lots of fun with us! Kazunari Ninomiya
I hope you all fall in love with Hawaii too! I mean, you already love it, don't you!! Jun Matsumoto
★Day 1 (3/30)
Opening Ceremony (outdoors)
Arashi greets the audience from the hotel balcony
Arashi's Hawaii Lesson (indoors)
Two parts, splitting the fans in half.
Aiba: "I Think I Know Hawaii" - A picture-story show about Hawaii's history
Matsumoto: "Hawaiian Language Lesson" - A lecture on basic Hawaiian conversation
Ohno: "Inside Hawaii Information" - Lei preservation methods and souvenirs
Ninomiya: "The Case Files of Young Ninomiya Kaneda"
Apparently, this was a bit of a skit that didn't go over well. But the cheesy lines had fans going wild!
Sakurai: "Aloha Shirt Fashion Show"
Arashi members walked down the aisle wearing aloha shirts and muumuus.
★Day 2 (3/31)
Pool Event (Outdoors)
The first half was free time on the pool's lawn. Those who wanted to swim were welcome to the pool.
"Arashi Psychology Test"
Apparently, it was posted on a tree on the grounds. By answering "yes" or "no," it was revealed which member you most closely resembled.
"Arashi's Battle of Flames in Hawaii"
This was also divided into two parts.
They performed a dance at the opening. Aiba, who had just recovered from an illness, hosted the event. The four members battled in a game.
Game Contents
① Tropical Shaved Ice Eating Contest
② One-Minute Spin-Spin Hula Hoop Contest
③ Macadamia Nut Carrying Race
★ Secret Service
These were five projects each member came up with. Fans were divided into five groups, and a lottery was held to select one of the special treats. Each project had 300 fans! All the treats were provided by the five members of Arashi over two days.
Ninomiya's plan: "Hula Dance Lesson"
Nino gave a hula lesson and then danced hula with Arashi.
Sakurai's plan: "Radio Exercises & Dance"
After doing radio exercises, they performed a simple dance choreographed by Arashi.
Aiba's plan: "Grass Valley"
Arashi split into two groups, with a few fans joining in as helpers. Aiba acted as referee.
Ohno's plan: "Human Letters & Commemorative Photo"
They had planned to make "ARSHI IN HAWAII," but they ran out of time, so they decided to combine the two letters "AI" to mean "love," and took a commemorative photo.
Matsumoto's plan: "Serving Breakfast"
The members of Arashi helped with the breakfast buffet. They served the food on plates.
★Last Event
"Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament with Arashi and 1,500 Others"
They played rock-paper-scissors with each other, and the winner received the aloha shirt that Arashi wore at the Aloha Fashion Show.
★Handshake Event
Apparently, this was decided at the last minute at the suggestion of the members.
★Final Remarks:
Aiba: I really did get sick before coming here this time. I'm fine now, but at the time I was told I couldn't fly, which was a huge shock. I missed work during that time and caused a lot of trouble, but I was really looking forward to it, and I went to see Benjamin before, and I really wanted to go, so I asked him to remove my tubes and all. I'm completely recovered now, so thank you so much to everyone who was worried about me. I'm doing great now. We're all like classmates. All human beings are brothers and sisters! It was fun!
Ninomiya: Arashi has to be in Hawaii every year for ARASHI DAYS. I want to keep the costs down. I'm aiming for something even more satisfying. Next time I'd like to do a concert.
Note: March 30th and 31st were designated ARASHI DAYS by the state governor for this tour.Ohno: I wanted to spend more time with everyone. I wanted to go shopping, fish, and do things close to home. Let's do it someday. It was so much fun. When we get back to Japan, I'm sure we'll feel even more excited than we do now.
Matsumoto: I realized how much each and every one of us five is loved by everyone. I haven't had many opportunities to feel that way until now, but I was able to reaffirm it. These two days were big days in my life. I want to have more opportunities like this again. I had so much fun over the past two days. Thank you!
Sakurai: When we debuted, I said, "Next time, I want to come with all our fans," and I wondered if I should have said that, but I'm glad we were able to make it happen in our third year since our debut. ~Dancing Yassai Mossai at the request of fans~ When I saw Arashi on TV, I said, "Oh, they know this guy!" It must have been hard for everyone waiting outside in the heat, but I hope that these moments will become memories for them as well.
