Summary

TRUE WEST is a stage play staring Ohno Satoshi and Matsuoka Masahiro from 2004 based on the play by Sam Sheppard. It was performed from 05.02-23 at the Tokyo Globe Theater and the NHK Osaka Hall from 05.28-30.

Setting: An old house in southern California, about 20 miles outside of LA. Scenario: Writer Austin (Ohno Satoshi) stays at his mother’s (Kiuchi Midori) home while she has left for a trip to Alaska. Five years ago, his brother Lee (Matsuoka Masahiro) returned to the desert to find their father. Lee has an uneducated and rough personality in contrast with Austin. A Hollywood producer, Saul (Tezuka Toru), also visits the home to check out Austin’s screenplay, but Saul ends up being interested in a story that Lee told instead. As a result, two people with different paths and personalities collide with each other.
